Glen Philbrick
Glen Philbrick, a signatory member of the New Zealand International Watercolour Society (IWS) and an International Brand Ambassador for RockWell Art Supplies Canada, resides in Wellington, New Zealand. His journey into the realm of art commenced in 2021, catalyzed by a visit to his colleague's studio. Encouraged to embrace painting as a tribute to his late father, a retired picture framer and artist, Glen found a newfound passion he never envisioned.
Formally embarking on his artistic expedition, Glen honed his skills through a Wild Watercolour Course instructed by Dolores Phelps. Under her mentorship, he delved into the Wild Watercolour Circle community, drawing inspiration from Dolores's paintings, processes, and teachings. He specializes in semi-abstract watercolour landscapes, employing RockWell paints and mixed media techniques, often utilizing a tilting board and spray bottle. Embracing a philosophy that emphasizes the symbiotic dance of pigment and water, Glen minimizes brushwork, allowing gravity and water to guide the alchemical fusion of hues.
In his artistic endeavors, Glen prioritizes imbuing his works with an aura of tranquility and serenity, reflecting his profound spiritual connection to the landscapes he portrays. Beyond the realm of artistry, he serves in Healthcare Quality & Patient Safety as a Registered Nurse, actively participating in various family activities.
Glen finds inspiration in the rich tapestry of local artists flourishing in New Zealand, their diverse styles and interpretations serving as wellsprings for his own creative journey.
